7 Awesome Cricut Facts that You Likely Did Not Know

You need to calibrate your machine periodically.

If your Cricut starts cutting wonky, or just seems to be acting a little off, you don’t need to worry. You don’t need to start saving for a new machine. Many people think that when this happens, they have worn out their Cricut. That’s not true! These machines need a little tune-up occasionally, which you do by calibrating. You need to maintain your machine just like a car. You can find a good tutorial about calibrating here.

Cricut does not tell you when you need to change your blade…

This is a big one that most people don’t know. Cricut does not have a feature that alerts you when your blade is getting dull. This is something you will need to check on yourself and decide when the blade should be changed out. Tell-tale signs can include having the make multiple cuts because the blade isn’t cutting all the way through, if material is tearing, or the blade is dragging over material. These are all signs that the blade needs to be changed. We have a great blog post all about Cricut blades here.

You can re-use Cricut brand transfer tape.

I touch on this in another blog post for Cricut Beginners and wanted to talk about it again here. You can totally use off brand transfer tape for Cricut projects. But those off brand transfer tapes tend to be cheaper for a reason. The Cricut brand is more expensive but you are able to use it multiple times.

You can use Crayola Fine Line Markers with your Cricut.

Yep – that’s right! You don’t have to only use the expensive Cricut pens and markers. The regular fine line Crayola markers will also work. This is really neat because they come in a variety of colors, are inexpensive, and make really pretty lines.

Baby wipes can clean your Cricut mats.

Another mind-blowing fact! I used to wash my mats with Dawn soap pretty religiously until I found out about this hack. All you have to do is wipe your Cricut mats clean with a baby wipe. Try not to press too hard or you could rub some of the stickiness off, but not likely. At first the mat may seem like it is no longer sticky but that is just because it is wet. We did a whole blog post on how to clean your Cricut mats which you can find here.

Cricut Design Space is accessible on your iPhone.

When I first started using my Cricut, I thought I could only use Cricut Design Space on my desktop computer. It was a little hard to run back and forth from my computer to my craft room while doing a project. Then I found out I could download the Cricut Design Space program to my iphone and things became A LOT easier.

This is your time to get creative and think outside of the box for materials. I bet you this machine can cut whatever you come up with.
